Man vs Dog
Title
Man vs Dog
Description
The central figure in this work is a soldier with elongated proportions standing in a contrapposto pose. He is dressed in blue and is wearing a metallic breastplate and a blue guard's hat with a maroon plume. he is resting on either side on two swords. In his left hand along with the sword he is holding a rectangular yellow object and a white handkerchief. At his feet is a partially-painted outline of dog lying down. The dog’s head is cocked forward and surrounded by five daisy-like flowers. This part of the painting is based on photograph of Teddy, the Fetherston’ s German shepherd. On the left side is one large greenish-yellow transparent flower with a pink, purple, and yellow center. The pencil line used to sketch the flower on to the canvas is visible on the petals. The background is a gray-brown color that just covers the surface of the canvas, although sections of canvas are visible.
