Sculpture in The Garden

Before her death, Edith Fetherston hired Samuel J. Dornsife of Henry A. Dornsife & Sons, an interior decorating firm in Williamsport, PA, to catalogue the layout of her house and the objects she had on display. The photos they took of the garden show the original placement of many statues now found in the museum. Both the Phoenix (Burner, Incense) and the copy of the Venus de Milo were originally place within the lush garden. Unlike many sculpture gardens, the Packwood garden did not curate the space according to the object, but rather included the objects within the untamed nature of the ferns and trees. The sculptures rest naturally amongst low hanging branches and bushes.
