Title

Lewisburg Scandals

Description

The composition shows a scene of three figures within a wide archway that looks out toward a classically-designed garden. Standing on top of the archway is a nude figure, and above her is a branch with round leaves. She bends down towards the left side of the painting but looks up at the tree branch. Beneath are three figures playing in the garden along with three birds, plus one in the air. There is also a large black-eyed Susan and a shorter blue flower. The artist explains, "The two principal figures are innocent--just naturally attracted to each other. The upper figure is scandal and every tongue in Lewisburg was wagging."
