Title

India

Description

In this large work Fetherston again uses the technique of allowing the paint to run down the canvas to create ambiguity. But this time the artist has allowed the paint to drip and then flipped the painting upside down, so that the it appears to be defying gravity and spilling upwards. Clouds of bluish green paint are painted around this area on the bottom, sides, and top left corner. Two delicate white orchids fall from the top right of the painting, also upside down, while a smaller, slightly different flower peeks out between them. This flower subtly contradicts the top to bottom flow of this work.
