Title

Teddy

Description

Teddy is a portrait of the Fetherston’s German shepherd dog. It is painted with a chocolate-brown background that frames the bust of the dog. The paint here is thickly applied making both Teddy and the background look dense and solid, despite the abstract sweeps of color. It is only Teddy’s bodiless head and neck appear to float in front of the the reddish brown background which creates a warm feeling. The paint is applied smoothly near the face, while considerable texture is created near the edges of the painting. It is extremely thick in some sections and appears to have been worked with a palette knife and a brush. The way the paint has been applied gives the impression of the animal's fur.
