Description
According to the artist Was ist Leben? depicts a scene of “…Victoria Falls, Africa, where there is always a rainbow in the falls. The orangutan just can't understand what life is about.” In the work an orangutan pokes his head out from behind an orchid leaf and looks up at the vast colorful scene around him. He hides behind two purple and green orchids that rise at about the same height. Smaller yellow orchids create a small pile in the bottom left hand corner of the work. To the orangutan’s right is another orchid stem, with four white, purple, and yellow flowers on it. Behind it are three giraffes of varying sizes, looking in different directions. They are significantly smaller than the flowers. Three tiger lilies on the right shield a small zebra in profile. Just above the zebra is a flock of birds. It has shades of green, gray, yellow, and orange. This is one of Fetherston’s largest paintings.
